Many cars today have a little helper: cruise control. Imagine your parents are driving on a long, straight motorway. They set the cruise control to 120 km/h. From now on the car keeps this speed by itself, it no longer accelerates and does not brake either, as long as nothing special happens. Every second it covers the same distance, that is again uniform motion.

For you in the car this feels comfortable. The engine hums evenly, you are not pushed into the seat and not pulled forwards. If you know how far you still have to drive, you can even calculate quite well with the constant speed how long it will take until you arrive. In this way the cruise-control car shows that uniform motion is not just something from the physics book, but can be experienced directly by you on the back seat.
